The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced Tuesday it has dismissed the application of Norwegian player Ole-Christian Tollefsen for provisional measures that would have allowed him to play at the IIHF World Championship while his suspension is being reviewed by CAS.

On April 20, the IIHF announced that its Disciplinary Committee had suspended Tollefsen for three international games for a dangerous hit to the head of Slovakia's Lubos Bartecko. The hit occurred during the Olympic qualification playoff game between Slovakia and Norway on February 23 in Vancouver.

Tollefsen appealed to the IIHF to have the decision of the Disciplinary Committee overturned. However, the decision was upheld. He then applied to CAS for the aforementioned provisional measures, which the IIHF strongly argued against.

The three-game suspension remains in effect, according to the CAS decision rendered by Gunnar Werner, the Deputy President of the Appeals Arbitration Division.

Tollefsen is eligible to return to Norway's lineup in the next round of the IIHF World Championship.
