MANNHEIM – Sweden forward Mattias Weinhandl was sent home today after suffering an injury at the 2010 IIHF World Championship.

Weinhandl had three goals in two games for Sweden.

He suffered a concussion six weeks ago while playing in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League, and complained here this week of having a headache.

Without Weinhandl, Sweden has three goalkeepers, six defencemen and eleven forwards on the roster, but could still add two additional skaters before its game tonight against the Czech Republic, and then two additional players with the beginning of the Qualification Round.

Canada will play its next game in the Qualification Round on Friday without Steve Stamkos. The forward injured his jaw after colliding with Swiss defenceman Timo Helbling last night. Same as in the last period against Switzerland Stamkos will be sidelined for precautionary reasons.

"I think it's just a protocol that you follow when someone has the symptoms that he had," Canadian GM Mark Messier told the Canadian Press. "It's not a blunt blow to the head, that kind of concussion. It's a different kind when you get hit in the jaw. There's still a protocol to follow and we're going to do that because it's the right thing to do."
