LILLEHAMMER – Playing in its first game of the 2016 Youth Olympics, the Czech Republic women's national team downed Slovakia 2-1.

Natalie Mlynkova's goal in the second period of the game was all the team needed , as Karolina Juricova shut the door on the Slovaks the rest of the way.

The Czech defence did a good job keeping Slovakia away from Juricova's net, as the goaltender faced just 14 shots the whole game.

On the other end Andrea Risianova had another good game, stopping 32 of 34 shots and keeping her team in contention. But after a first period goal from Patricia Agostonova the Slovak offence fell silent.

With the loss Slovakia falls to 1W-1L in the tournament, while the Czechs get their first win in their first game. Slovakia faces defending Youth Olympic champions Sweden next, while the Czech REpublic takes on tournament hosts Norway.
