LAPPEENRANTA – The IIHF Disciplinary Panel has issued a suspension to Denmark U18 national team player Kristian Jensen for his check to the head on Finland’s Eetu Sopanen. Jensen, who received a match penalty in the game and thus missed today’s game against the Czech Republic, will be suspended for an additional two games at the IIHF U18 World Championship.

The infraction occurred at 14:17 in the second period. With the score 5-1 in favour of Finland Sopanen was battling for the puck along the boards with a Danish player when Jensen skated hard towards Sopanen and delivered a hit with his elbow and forearm directly to the neck and jaw. Sopanen was injured on the play and had to be carried off the ice on a stretcher.

The Panel determined that Jensen skated into the play with no intention of playing the puck and risked the safety of his opponent. Therefore it was decided that an additional two-game suspension would be added to the match penalty already given to Jensen. He will miss Denmark’s final two preliminary round games against the USA and Switzerland.
