BERNE - Canada's Ian White has returned home to seek treatment for a sore neck, while Switzerland's Julien Sprunger underwent a successful operation on May 5.

"We're just going to err on the side of caution and just make sure it's taken care of," a disappointed White told the Canadian Press. The Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman tallied three points in five games for Canada, but sat out Monday versus Finland in the Qualification Round closer.

Also on Monday, Sprunger injured his neck when checked heavily by David Backes of the United States, who received a five-minute major and game misconduct for boarding. According to Swiss media reports, the Fribourg-Gotteron right wing's career will not be endangered after he had the operation at a Berne hospital.

The Swiss federation also released other injury information. Forward Ryan Gardner played against Latvia and Sweden with a broken hand, and Severin Blindenbacher had a strained groin against the Americans.
