QUEBEC CITY – The tournament directorate decided on Wednesday to suspend Swedish defenceman Niclas Wallin for two games for his hit to the head and neck area of Switzerland’s Roman Wick.
Wallin was assessed a match penalty for the hit, which occurred at the 54:10 mark of Switzerland’s 4-2 win.
A match penalty automatically carries a one-game suspension, but due to the severity of the hit, the Directorate decided on a supplementary suspension of one additional game.
Roman Wick suffered a severe concussion and had complete amnesia for 10 minutes following the hit.
The player is projected to be out of action for a period of six to 10 days.
Wallin will miss Sweden’s Qualifying Round games against Denmark on Thursday and against Russia on Saturday.
