Following their successful sponsorship of the Champions Hockey League that saw the underdog Zurich Lions ride a wave of momentum to the top of European hockey, Reebok-CCM has renewed its partnership with the Victoria Cup for 2009 in Zurich as the Official Sportswear Supplier Victoria Cup 2009.

Says Reebok-CCM VP of Global Sports Marketing, Glen Thornborough:

"Reebok-CCM is proud to extend its relationship with the Victoria Cup 2009 in Zurich. What the Zurich Lions were able to achieve in last season's Champions Hockey League captured the hearts and minds of fans across Europe and as the official supplier to the NHL as well, it is important that the Reebok-CCM brand maintain its leading role in important international events such as the Victoria Cup."

In addition to designing and supplying the uniforms for all 3 clubs they will also supply the game officials, helmets, gloves and off-ice apparel for the event.

Generali, one of the leading insurance companies in Switzerland, have also joined the group of Victoria Cup sponsors. They are a premium partner of the event and the sponsorship features a comprehensive package of benefits.

Generali Marketing Manager Switzerland, Roger Steiger said "The Victoria Cup is a rare opportunity to see how European Clubs match up against the NHL. This year the Zurich Lions and HC Davos are competing against the Chicago Blackhawks so it will be a real gauge of how Swiss ice hockey measures up internationally."

The Victoria Cup 2009 takes place over two nights at the Hallenstadion in Zurich. On Monday September 28th the defending Swiss Champion HC Davos will have the first attempt at defeating the Blackhawks in a highly anticipated exhibition game.

On Tuesday night, the Zurich Lions will put their new European title to the test against the Blackhawks in the Victoria Cup to see if they can repeat the magic they had in January when they defeated the mighty Russians from Magnitogorsk to claim European glory in the CHL final.

Tickets for both nights are available by going to www.ticketcorner.com.

HC Davos offers their fans free entrance to any of HCD’s regular season games upon presentation of a Victoria Cup ticket stub of 100 CHF or higher.

The Victoria Cup was introduced by the IIHF during its 100 Year Anniversary to encourage competition between NHL and European club teams. The annually awarded trophy was named to recognize the Victoria Skating Rink in Montreal, the place where the first organized hockey game was played. The rink, originally located between Drummond and Stanley streets, south of St. Catherine Street, measured almost exactly 200’ x 85’, the size of a standard Canadian rink ever since.
