Getting ready for the Global Girls’ Game: the players in blue and white from Slovakia from last year’s event.

Today is the International Women’s Day – and we’re just two days away from the Global Girls’ Game that will be played in 39 countries.

The Global Girls’ Game is a long game with a Team Blue and a Team White playing each other not just on one ice sheet but at 39 venues in 39 countries all over the world with the aim of not just winning but promoting women’s hockey on and off the ice.

The Global Girls’ Game begins on Saturday morning in Auckland, New Zealand, when it’s still Friday in many parts of the hockey world. It goes on in neighbouring Australia, Japan and other countries in Asia before continuing in the Middle East, Russia, further west in Europe and the Americas. It will end Sunday night with games in Iceland, Mexico City and eventually in Mississauga, Canada.

The girls around the world will be connected through their jersey being part of either Team Blue and Team White and the scores will be accumulated throughout the weekend with the long game going on during 53 hours.

Follow the game and the effort of these female players promoting women’s hockey worldwide on IIHF.com and on our social media channels on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and by using the hashtag #GlobalGirlsGame.
