Hungarian Championship ended with expected winner

SZEKESFEHERVAR, Hungary – Sapa Fehérvár can celebrate once more as Hungary’s champions after losing the Hungarian-Romanian MOL Liga to Romanian club HSC Csíkszereda.

Fehérvár took home the trophy for the ninth consecutive year in a row by sweeping the Dunaújváros Steelbulls. Sapa Fehérvár were the favourites to win the trophy yet again as they also play in the stronger Austrian EBEL league, and they did not disappoint with a strong showing against the Steelbulls in the final (2:1, 5:2, 7:4, 9:4).

The series win gives Sapa Fehérvér AV19 their ninth Hungarian championship in a row and twelfth overall. In Hungary only Ferencváros Budapest (25) and Újpest Budapest (13) have won more.

Peter Sevela (Dunaújváros) who got the Vedres Cup was chosen as the best goalie. The best defender is Bence Szirányi from (Vasas HC). The most skillful player who got the Miklós Cup was Nikandrosz Galanisz (Dunaújváros). The best forwarder is Balázs Ladányi (Sapa Fehérvár), he got the Gábor Ocskay Cup. The manager of the Steelbulls, JP MacCallum, was awarded best coach. The Kósa Cup award for rookie of the year went to József Pleszkán (Ferencváros). The best foreign player was Eric Johansson (Sapa Fehérvár).
