You want to correct a mistake in your application?

A subsequent change of your data online is impossible. Moreover, you cannot add further information after you have registered. If you would like to change or add something, please send us an e-mail to [email protected]. It should include your full name and your birth date. Then you briefly describe the changes and we will complete them in your application.

 

Is there any age restriction?

Each candidate must be 18 years old by May, 1st 2010 (cut off date). This is according to article 2 of the German Civil Code.

 

Will I get paid for my engagement?

No. For your engagement as a volunteer you will not get any payment. However, you will receive the following services for the duration of the event:

o      Accreditation

o      Volunteer uniform

o      Free meals

o      Free public transportation in the host cities

o      Third party liability and accident insurance during working hours

o      Volunteer-Certificate

 

Will travel costs be reimbursed?

During your engagement as volunteer the access to public transport is provided by the Organizing Committee. Each volunteer will be accredited for the 2010 IIHF World Championship and thus allowed to use public transport in the host city where the volunteer is based for free. The travel costs to your interview and to the training can not be reimbursed.

 

Are there minimum requirements?

Yes. There are two minimum requirements: firstly, the age requirement, after which each candidate on 1st of May 2010 must be 18 years (§ 2 of the German Civil Code). In addition, you must have good German or very good English language skills.

 

Do I need any experience?

Generally, you do not need experience. Of course we are looking forward to hearing that you already have experience as a volunteer at IIHF World Championship or similar events.

 

How do I find accommodation?

In order to support the volunteers finding accommodation for their stay, the Organizing Committee will prepare an overview of affordable accommodation in their destination. This will be provided in conjunction with the volunteer agreement. Subsequently, the volunteers have to organize their own accommodation. The cost of the accommodation cannot reimbursed by the OC.

 

Can I also apply if I do not live in Germany?

Yes, everybody is welcome to apply. Nationality, ethnicity and home country is irrelevant. However, we cannot reimburse travel or accommodation costs. Applicants from abroad must have good German or very good English language skills.

 

What Operational Areas are available?

An overview of the Operational Areas can be found under the menu "Operational Areas".

 

How will I be invited for an interview?

The invitation for a personal interview is carried out by telephone. For this reason, it is very important that you send us an E-Mail to [email protected] in case your phone number changes. This e-mail should contain your full name and your birth date.

 

When do I get a decision about my engagement as a volunteer?

In December 2009 all volunteers selected will be informed.

 

Will I be trained in order to carry out my responsibilities as a volunteer?

Yes, prior to the 2010 IIHF World Championship, all volunteers will go through a training that would include tournament-specific training in order to understand their responsibilities, the venue of operation and general information about the 2010 IIHF World Championship. Participation in the training is mandatory for all volunteers.

 

When does the 2010 IIHF World Championship start for the Volunteers? How long do I have to be engaged?

The engagement begins for some of the volunteers, depending on the operational area and venue, a few days before the 2010 IIHF World Championship. The regular operating time for most volunteers, however, includes the period from 7 - 23 May 2010 (also this depends on the operational area & venue).

We do not expect that volunteers are available throughout the entire period of the event. However, to qualify as volunteer you must be available at least ten days. In some areas, a higher availability is required.

 

Is there an insurance coverage for volunteers?

Yes, for all the volunteers there will be a third-party liability and an accident insurance for the duration of the working hours is provided.

 

Will volunteers be able to watch 2010 IIHF World Championship games?

No seats will be allocated to volunteers. However, there will be the opportunity depending on the respective operational area and after consultation with the volunteer manager to watch games.

 

How are breaks organized?

The break times are flexible and depend on the actual tasks. The break times differ depending on operational area and venue, so that no factual statements can be taken. The exact break times have to be clarified during the championship.

 

Where will the volunteers fulfill their duties?

The games take place in Cologne, LANXESS arena, in Mannheim, SAP ARENA and in Gelsenkirchen, VELTINS-Arena. The Volunteers will be fulfill their duties in the arenas or in the near surrounding outside of the arenas. Further locations include the hotels where athletes and officials are accommodated as well as the practice rinks or airports.

 

Will I get a confirmation for my volunteer duty?

Each volunteer will receive a certificate from the 2010 IIHF World Championship Organizing Committee.
