ŠKODA will send 45 Superb Combi as the official fleet to this year’s IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. The International Ice Hockey Federation’s world championship will be held in Finland and Sweden from May 4th to May 20th. The first 25 cars have just been handed over to the Finnish Organising Committee at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki.

ŠKODA is the annual world championship’s official main sponsor for the 20th consecutive time. ŠKODA cars made available have clocked up five million kilometres at the service of IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships over the years. “IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships fascinate people the world over every year. We are happy that ŠKODA, having been the official main sponsor for twenty years, is a part of this fascination and that ŠKODA has been able to find many new friends for our brand among ice hockey fans,” says Jürgen Stackmann, ŠKODA board member for sales and marketing. “In this time, ŠKODA cars serving the world championships have run over five million kilometres, which is to say they have circled the globe 125 times. We are proud that none of these many trips has been interrupted by a technical failure in a ŠKODA, but this is mainly a mark of the uncompromising quality which world cup organisers and ŠKODA customers the world over can expect of our products.”

Horst Lichtner, IIHF secretary general, has this to add: “20 years of practical experience have taught us that we can rely on ŠKODA. Our guests know and appreciate the dependability and comfort of ŠKODA cars. It is very important for the IIHF and the world championship organisation that we have had a partner of this quality on board for so long. We are looking forward to renewed cooperation. “

ŠKODA’s official fleet will carry officials, guests and material using 45 candy-white ŠKODA Superb Combis. They will all bear the official world championship design. 25 cars in ŠKODA “Ambition Business” trim will be used in Helsinki; the other 20 cars in “Elegance” trim will operate in Stockholm and be transferred by ship to Helsinki for the championship’s final round.
