COLORADO SPRINGS, USA – David Quinn has been named an assistant coach for the U.S. Men's National Team that will compete in the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship from May 4-20 in Helsinki, Finland, and Stockholm, Sweden. The announcement came today from USA Hockey.

Quinn joins Head Coach Scott Gordon and Assistant Coach Greg Cronin, who were announced on April 10.

Quinn was an assistant coach for the U.S. Men's National Team at the 2007 IIHF Men's World Championship. Additionally, he was an assistant coach for the 2005 U.S. National Junior Team and also for the U.S. Women's National Teams that earned silver medals in the 1999 and 2000 IIHF Women's World Championships.

From 2002-04, Quinn was a head coach for USA Hockey's National Team Development Program. During his time in Ann Arbor, Mich., he was recognized as the 2003 USA Hockey Development Coach of the Year.

Currently, Quinn is the head coach for the American Hockey League's Lake Erie Monsters. In three years there he has compiled a record of 115-94-7-18 and led the team to its first Calder Cup playoff appearance in 2010-11.

In between the NTDP and Lake Erie, he spent five seasons (2004-09) as the associate head coach at Boston University, where he helped the Terriers capture the NCAA championship in 2009. Quinn's other collegiate coaching positions have been at Northeastern (1995-96) and Nebraska-Omaha (1996-2002).

In the midst of Quinn's four-year playing career at Boston University, he was selected to compete for the U.S. National Junior Team that won the bronze medal at the 1986 IIHF World Junior Championship.

USA Hockey also named its support staff for the 2012 U.S. Men's National Team.

Bob Webster will serve as the team leader for the eighth straight year. Webster has been involved with U.S. Men's National Teams for parts of the past five decades.

Ryan Ward will be Team USA's video coordinator for the second time. He had the same role with the 2010 U.S. Men's National Team.

Stan Wong and Tom Mulligan will serve as the team's athletic trainers. Wong, who has also worked with the U.S. National Junior Team and U.S. Olympic Team, is serving as a trainer for the U.S. Men's National Team for the fourth straight year, while Mulligan, the head athletic trainer for the Tampa Bay Lightning, is making his second appearance with the U.S. Men's National Team after holding the same role in 2008.

Ray Thill and Rob Kennedy, head equipment and assistant equipment manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning, will serve as Team USA's equipment managers. Thill was an equipment manager for Team USA at the 2008 and 2009 IIHF World Championships, while Kennedy is making his first appearance with a U.S. Men's National Team.

Yani Zinis will serve as the team physician, a role he performed at the 2007 IIHF Men's World Championship and the 2006 Olympic Winter Games.

Christian Rivas, massage therapist for the Tampa Bay Lightning, will be the team's massage therapist for the first time.
