HELSINKI/STOCKHOLM – The German national team has added two more players to its roster at the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.

Defenceman Sinan Akdag and forward Daniel Pietta, both from DEL team Krefeld Pinguine, were registered on Sunday.

Akdag can become the first-ever German player with Turkish family background to represent Germany at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. The 22-year-old Rosenheim native played for his country in the 2009 U20 World Championship and the 2007 U18 World Championship.

Pietta has been with the men’s national team since the 2010/2011 season, but it’s the first time he made it to the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship roster. He also played in IIHF competition with the U20 (2006) and U18 (2003, 2004) national teams, although at Division I level.

Both players added today have already been with the team for the training camp.

Teams can register up to 25 players (22 skaters, 3 goalkeepers) for the tournament. Additions are possible until two hours before each game until the roster is full.
