A major championship could not be organized without the volunteers. Next spring, 900 volunteers per venue will be active during the World Championship, assisting the organizing committee with virtually everything from press service to transportation. In Helsinki, the kick-off for their training was organized at the end of January, when 700 volunteers gathered at Hartwall Arena for their first instruction. In Stockholm, The opening training session coincided with the tournament Oddset Hockey Games, where Sweden prevailed ahead of Czech Republic, Finland and Russia and almost 300 volunteers showed up at the Globe and “Hovet”. The first training session involved general information as well as small tours of each of the tournament venues. The volunteers of the event in both countries have showed great interest in the upcoming event. Although most of the volunteers in Helsinki are from Finland and in Stockholm from Sweden, others will travel from Switzerland, Germany and even from Canada to join in the organization of the championships. After the first training sessions, all the volunteers have now broken up into smaller, specialized groups, and will continue practicing in these groups into the spring.
