STOCKHOLM – The IIHF has decided that there will be no disciplinary action against Denmark player Jesper B. Jensen for a pair of body checks on Sweden's Joel Lundqvist, who pulled out of the tournament with a facial fracture following the game.

The first incident occurred in the opening period of the Sweden-Denmark preliminary round match on Monday night, when a collision between the two players sent the Swedish forward’s headlong against the edge of the glass at the end of the players' bench.

After IIHF Disciplinary judge Dan Marouelli reviewed the tape of the incident, it was determined that the play was a normal body check and that, while the impact the Swedish player had against the edge of the glass was an unfortunate result, the play itself was not found to be an infraction of the rules and does not warrant any disciplinary action.

Marouelli and Jeff Sauer, who together form the IIHF Disciplinary committee, also reviewed the second incident involving Jensen and Lundqvist that occurred in the third period, when both players again made contact with each other. However both Disciplinary judges ruled that the video evidence supported the referee’s ruling on the ice, and determined that the check by Jensen on Lunqvist was not in violation of IIHF Rule 540 governing checks to the head and neck area.
