Finland and Sweden will co-host the IIHF World Championship in 2012 and 2012, and now it’s time to find the historic mascot with two home countries. Do you have a great idea for one? Would you like to be a part of hockey history? Here’s your chance: We’re announcing an open mascot design competition.

The mascot is a sixth skater for all teams, a figure that will entertain and excite the spectators in the arena. In additon, the mascot’s image will be used in World Championship print and other material, merchandising, and other marketing purposes already in the spring of 2011.

Since the tournament will be co-hosted by two countries, people in both Finland and Sweden will have to like it. Alternatively, there can be two mascots, united by a shared story. Creating the back story for one, or two mascots, is a part of the design work, and the competition.

Last date of entry: January 31, 2011

Please send your suggestion for a mascot, and the story behind it, to the tournament organization by January 31, 2011, by email or regular mail.

If the tournament organization chooses to use a mascot entered in the competition, the winner and the mascot will be unveiled during spring 2011. The tournament organization will contact the winner as soon as possible after the deadline for entries.

The winner will receive four VIP hospitality packages to the World Championship final, May 20, 2012 in Helsinki, Finland, and in May 2013 in Stockholm, Sweden. The packages include game tickets and meals, and the total value of the prize is approximately 4000 euro.

The rights to the mascot will be transferred to Infront Sports & Media AG.
