About Globe Arena

The Globe Arena was built in time to host the 1989 IIHF World Championship. It has also been the stage for all kinds of events, ranging from a papal visit to the Eurovision Song Contest final, to shows by the world’s greatest artists. The arena can quickly be changed from a hockey rink to a gala dinner or from a dressage arena to a rock concert venue.

Today, the Globe is a symbol for both Stockholm and Sweden. The arena’s diameter is 110 metres, its inner height 85 metres, and its volume is 600,000 cubic metres. To illustrated, consider this: It would take 40 years to fill the Globe with water from a water tap.

The arena has a capacity of 13,850 spectators, and in the surrounding area, there is a football stadium, Söderstadion, and the venue for IIHF World Championships from pre-Globe era, Hovet. A new football stadium, Stockholmsarenan, is being built close-by, to be ready by 2013.
