The 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship tournament organization is happy to fulfill hockey fans’ wishes by making individual game tickets available, instead of several tickets bundled into packages. The single game tickets will be released for sale on January 30.

“One of the things that make the new tournament system great is the fact that now fans can plan their trips knowing which games their team will play, up to the quarter-final,” says IIHF President René Fasel.

The ticket sales for the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship began last spring and the demand has been high especially for the final weekend and the weekend games in the preliminary round. There are still some tickets left for the quarter-finals and the semi-finals.

“There are tickets available to some fantastic games – either true playoff games or to the fans’ favorite teams’ games,” says Kalervo Kummola, chairman of the tournament organization in Finland.

Starting from 35 euro

The prices of the individual game tickets range from 35 euro to 155 or 195 euro for Team Finland’s games, depending on the category.

Until the individual tickets will be released on January 30, tickets will be sold in packages as until now. When bought in packages, each ticket is cheaper than when purchased individually. For example, the opening package (Teemu Selänne) costs 265 or 345 euro, depending on the category, but individual tickets to the same games will cost 362 or 462 euro.

For the games in Stockholm there are currently no plans to release single tickets. Tickets are sold in packages of four games (two for the quarter-finals) for SEK 895-2295 (approx. €100-260) depending the seat category.

Buy a ticket, get one to outdoor game at the Olympic Stadium

The first 12,000 fans who buy an individual game ticket to a game of the Finnish national team will also get a ticket to the Finland-Russia game played at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium on February 9, 2012. The game is part of the Oddset Hockey Games (EHT), and will be the first outdoor game for a Finnish national team in decades.

“The outdoor game is a unique chance to see the reigning champions prepare themselves for the World Championship. All in all, the game will be a milestone in Finnish hockey history,” says Kummola.
